About Karel's Programming Environment
What is Karel's Programming Environment
Karel's Programming Environment is what you
see on the screen of your computer when you run the Karel program.
It lets you edit programs, change the way Karel's world looks, turn
on Karel's power, read programs into his onboard control computer, and
tell him to execute programs.
When you execute a program, you'll see what Karel does.
Component parts of Karel's Programming Environment
Karel's Programming Environment is broken up into several different
regions of the computer screen.
You can see these in the picture of Karel's
Programming Environment.
The programming environment is a windo arranged in subwindows.
There is a group of lists on the lift side, there is an editing window
in the middle, and there is a world-view window on the right.
List Selections, the File Menu, and Control Buttons for Karel's Programming Environment
- There are words in lists on the left side of the screen in
Karel's Programming Environment.
Clicking on these words makes things get typed into the editor window.
- There is a screen button labeled
FILE MENU
above the
editing window that lets you save the program you're editing, edit
another program, or print the current program on a printer.
- There are several screen buttons above the world view window that let
you do things like turn Karel's power on or off, read programs into Karel's
computer memory, initialize Karel's world, and ask Karel to execute the
program that has been read into his computer memory.
Each control button is associated with a specific event.
You get that event to occur by clicking
the associated control button.
