Information on awards will be posted as it becomes available. Dates given are for 2003-2004 year; these may be taken as approximate for future years.

Graduate Awards

• OGMP Supplemental Retention Program

  - Deadline July 12, 2004

  The OGMP Supplemental Retention Program (SRP) is designed for students who have completed at least one year of graduate studies with funding at UF, have less than three semester to completion and no longer have a fellowship, assistantship, or other College/Departmental funding. The OGMP-SRP is designed to assist students with the completion of their degree program by providing limited tuition assistance and by involving them in a structured retention program organized by the office of Graduate Minority Programs.

  • Students must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien.
  • Application Period: June 11 2004 through July 12, 2004
  • Information and Applications are available in the Office of Graduate Minority Programs room 115 Grinter Hall.

• NVIDIA international fellowship program

  - Deadline Feb. 27

  As NVIDIAŽ continues to grow and further develop cutting-edge multimedia technology, we are expanding our search for top PhD students and professors who are interested in receiving additional research funding through NVIDIAs international fellowship program. NVIDIA strives to ensure that future generations of high-tech innovators and their professorsenjoy the advantages of access to the latest technologies in a hands-on, working environment. The NVIDIA fellowship program is aimed at bringing this goal to fruition.

• The Alec Courtelis Award

  Awards are for outstanding international graduate students

  • Due no later than March 19.
  • Each Department may submit two names
  • The college will submit two names on behalf of the College of Engineering.
  • Three awards: $1000, $2000 & $3000 (chosen by a panel at UFIC)
  • Three letters of recommendation and CV needed for each nominee

  Program Criteria:

  • 1. Currently enrolled in MS or Ph.D.
  • 2. Outstanding academic achievement
  • 3. Contributions to the department and college exceed expectations
  • 4. Contributions and service to campus life at UF exceed expectations
  • 5. A non-immigrant visa holder
  • 6. Involvement in the Gainesville community

  Winners will be honored at a ceremony in late spring.

• Outstanding International Student Award

  Awards are for outstanding international students (both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible)

  • Due no later than March 19.
  • The college will submit nominations on behalf of the College of Engineering.
  • Winners are chosen by a panel at UFIC
  • There is no financial reward, only fame and glory
  • There are no specific supporting materials required, but clearly good documentation is a plus; as a minimum, a letter from the student's nominator is needed

  Program Criteria:

  • 1. Currently enrolled at UF
  • 2. Outstanding academic achievement
  • 3. Contributions to the department and college exceed expectations
  • 4. Contributions and service to campus life at UF exceed expectations
  • 5. A non-immigrant visa holder
  • 6. Involvement in the Gainesville community

  Winners will be honored at a ceremony in late spring (the same ceremony in which the Alec Courtelis winners are honored).

• The University Women's Club Scholarship

  Eligibility

  • at least completing the first year of graduate study
  • be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • one student may be nominated by a department or program.

  Award Criteria

  • financial need
  • scholastic excellence
  • character

  To Apply

  Provide Denise Atteberry and copy Taryn Stoffs or drop off a hard-copy application at CISE Student Services in room E405, with

  • your name
  • your student ID#
  • your address
  • short resume of your accomplishments
  • recommendation letter from your faculty advisor (or Chair of your Supervisory Committee)

  Process

  • Deadline to apply is 5:00 PM March 25
  • CISE Department Scholarship Committee reviews candidates
  • One nomination will be selected and forwarded
  • The University Women's Club will select the 10 winners
  • The departments will be notified and checks payable to the student will be sent there.

• The Fulbright Award

  - Deadline October 4, 2004.

  Graduating seniors and graduate students who want to conduct research overseas can receive a prestigious Fulbright award. Fulbright awards for graduate research at the MA and Ph.D. level, as well as for graduating seniors cover travel and living expenses for a year in any of over 140 countries. Students in any field, including business, journalism, engineering, and arts and sciences are encouraged to apply.

  Applicants for a Fulbright award must:

  • be U.S. citizens,
  • have an outstanding GPA,
  • have a record of community service, and
  • be interested in international scholarship.

  Process:

  • Deadline to apply at UF level is October 4, 2004. (Note that is is much earlier than the national deadline of October 21, 2004, so that all UF applicants can be interviewed on campus as required.)
  • Applications must be reviewed and submitted to the Fulbright Program Advisors in 140 Tigert Hall by that date.
  • Application forms and examples of successful applications can be reviewed in the Honors Office, 140 Tigert Hall.
  • Students should access the on-line application directly through The Fulbright website by following the Application Center link.

Undergraduate Awards

• The University Scholars Program

  The University Scholars Program introduces undergraduate students at the University of Florida to the exciting world of academic research. In the Program, students work one-on-one with UF faculty on selected research projects. Through this initiative, students will take away an understanding of and appreciation for the scholarly method. The University Scholars Program serves as an exceptional capstone to the academic careers of UF students.

  • University Scholars Program for undergraduates.
  • The stipend is $2500 in 2004 ($1500 summer, $1000 fall).
  • You must have a faculty sponsor.
  • Deadline is end of February.
  • Graduation date must be no earlier than the following December.

  • Sophomore, junior, and senior engineering students (2EG, 3EG, 4EG, or 5EG) with a minimum 3.2 cumulative UF GPA are eligible to participate in the CoE.
  • Sophomore, junior, and senior business students (2BA, 3BA, 4BA, or 5BA) with a minimum 3.25 cumulative UF GPA are eligible to participate in the CBA.
  • Sophomore, junior, and senior Liberal Arts students (2LS, 3LS, 4LS, or 5LS) with a minimum 3.0 cumulative UF GPA are eligible to participate in the CLAS.
  • All recipients must publish a short paper in the Journal of Undergraduate Research (JUR).
