Note for Prospective Students
Alin Dobra
At this time, I do not have the resources to take on more students. I
might be looking for students in the future, depending whether I get
more grants. In order to help you determine if I would be a good fit as
an advisor here are the kind of skills I am looking for in a
student:
- Strong mathematical skills. Virtually everything I do involves at least a moderate amount of math, but usually involves large amounts of it.
- Good programming skins.
Occasionally I have implementation projects but they are never
mainstream and require usually functional programming languages like ML.
- Good witting skills. There is nothing more frustrating than teaching people how to write so I expect any student to be reasonably proficient.
- To be finished with the qualifying exams. Unless
you are done (or almost done) with your qualifiers I will not start
working with you since the preparation for the exams interferes
significantly with the research.
I prefer to recruit students from my graduate classes. Your best chance to be selected is to impress me in class.
