Gilbert Awarded 2018 CRA A. Nico Habermann Award

Juan E. Gilbert, Ph.D.Juan Gilbert, The Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Professor and department chair, is 1 of 2 recipients of the 2018 A. Nico A. Habermann Award, given by the Computing Research Association (CRA).

The CRA unites industry, academia and government to advance computing research and change the world. This prestigious award highlights outstanding individuals who have made invaluable contributions, and, for more than 20 years, have been instrumental in the success of underrepresented individuals in the computing research community.

Gilbert is a leader in mentoring and graduating black Ph.D. students in computing. Since 2006, he has mentored and helped graduate the highest number of black computing science Ph.D. recipients. Under his leadership, CISE has the largest number of black computing science Ph.D. students in the nation, according to the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). CISE also has the highest number of black computing science faculty members in the United States.

The award ceremony will take place July 2018 at the biennial CRA Snowbird Conference in Utah.
