Who Am I ?

I am a PhD student in the Human-Centered Computing Program at the University of Florida. I work as a research assistant in the Human Experience Research Lab under the direction of Dr. Juan Gilbert. My specific research interest are Computer Science Education at all levels, educational technology and culturally relevant computing. I am interested in the development of CS Education curriculum and Ed Tech tools as well as how the experience with CS education can be enhanced for underrepresented groups. Through my degree program I hope to hone my User Experience Research skills because I believe that addressing the needs of the user population starts with well conducted UX research that represents all types of users.

In May of 2016 I graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. During my matriculation through Spelman, I particpated in research experiences, internships, community service projects and leardership roles. One of my most rewarding experiences was being a member of the SpelBots robotics team and later serving as captain. Through this experience I realized my passion for helping others and diversifying computing. While gaining a strong Computer Science foundation I began to gain interest in user applications. Specifically how I can use applications to teach Computer Science. I am interested in bridging computing and culture by conducting culturally relevant research.
