Time and place: Usually on Friday 4:00pm to 4:50pm in
CSE 404.
General goals:
- Talks by faculty and students on research problems and
special topics.
- Discussion of research problems. Will provide an
opportunity for students and/or faculty to collaborate on projects. There
will be one main presenter who volunteers to describe problems related to
their research during each meeting.
- Discussion of Ph. D qualifiers exam problems including
questions that have previously appeared on the exam. Questions from
algorithms and theory will be discussed. There will be about 2 meetings
and these will be scheduled close to the exam dates for the
semester. Here
are some strategies for working on qualifiers.
- There would be up to 4 talks in the seminar every
semester that will be eligible for the PhD seminar attendance
requirement and will be announced as such by the overall department
seminar coordinator Dr. Helmy.
